Automotive Prototyping & Custom Parts Manufacturing
- Accelerate Product Development
- From concept to production
- Fast turnaround times

RpProto has 20 years of experience in car prototyping and is your reliable partner. We produce prototypes and small batches of pre-production or production parts for hundreds of well-known automobile brands worldwide. Provide customized solutions to enable rapid iteration of your new car development. We implement full-process quality control in the prototype manufacturing process. Ensure that all aspects of the company can operate efficiently and correctly.
Automotive prototypes are essential in product design, cost control, production and sales, and quality inspection. When developing a new car, first make a prototype of the vehicle, test the appearance and structure, and see if your design is perfect! Prototype design can make timely corrections to some products that have been designed but are not perfect. After confirming that it is correct, proceed to mass production.
With years of experience serving leading automotive manufacturers and innovative startups, we understand the unique demands of this dynamic industry. Our advanced manufacturing capabilities include CNC machining, 3D printing, injection molding, vacuum casting, rapid tooling .

Car Control Panel Development Case Study
Client Challenge:
A leading automotive manufacturer needed to rapidly develop and validate a new car control panel design, then efficiently scale from prototype to mass production while maintaining strict quality standards.
Phase 1: Design Validation with CNC Machining
The client selected RpProto’s precision CNC machining service to manufacture initial control panel prototypes. These high-fidelity prototypes enabled the engineering team to verify the design’s form, fit, and function, test assembly procedures, and validate user interface ergonomics before committing to production tooling.
Phase 2: Market Testing with Vacuum Casting
Following successful design validation, RpProto utilized vacuum casting technology to rapidly produce hundreds of production-quality control panels for market testing. This bridge manufacturing approach allowed the client to gather real-world user feedback and make final design refinements without the time and cost investment of injection molding tooling.
Phase 3: Mass Production with Injection Molding
Based on positive market response, RpProto manufactured precision injection molds and transitioned to high-volume production. Our injection molding capabilities delivered consistent, high-quality control panels that met stringent automotive standards for durability, appearance, and performance.
Results:
The finished control panels received widespread acclaim from customers for their superior quality and refined design. By partnering with RpProto throughout the entire development cycle—from initial prototyping through mass production—the client successfully accelerated time-to-market while maintaining exceptional product quality.
Key Benefits:
- Rapid design validation through CNC machined prototypes
- Cost-effective market testing with vacuum cast parts
- Seamless transition to high-volume injection molding
- Single manufacturing partner from concept to production
- High-quality products that exceeded customer expectations

Car Bumper Prototype Case Study
Description: This is a car bumper designed for sports cars, manufactured with CNC machining from ABS material. Compared to standard car bumpers, this component is larger in size and features a more complex structural design. RpProto deliver it in a week without investing tooling.
Processing Steps:
1. Modeling and Programming
Before CNC machining begins, we create the 3D model and develop the machining program.
2. Material Preparation and CNC Machining
We cut the raw material to size and use CNC machining to create both the exterior appearance and internal structure.
3. Assembly and Quality Control
After CNC processing is complete, we bond the components together and verify dimensions. A fixture is used to ensure dimensional accuracy.
4. Surface Polishing
All surfaces are polished to achieve a smooth finish.
5. Primer Application and Finish Painting
Once polishing is complete, we apply the primer coating.
After the primer has dried, we apply the final surface coating.

Common Materials for Automotive Prototypes?
Conventional Prototypes
Generally use ABS, which is easy to process, and the post-processing of the prototype is also beautiful.
Transparent Prototypes
Prototypes made from PMMA (acrylic), transparent ABS, and transparent PC can be polished to achieve extremely high transparency and achieve the same effect as real products.
High Temperature Resistant Products
The materials like Epoxy Resin, Bakelite, Black PC, PA (nylon) can be selected.
Wear-Eesistant Prototypes
POM or PA can be used. Prototypes made of these two materials can not be bonded and need to be processed as a whole.
High-Toughness Prototypes
PA or PP can be used. Prototypes made of these two materials can not be bonded and need to be processed as a whole.
Lightweight and Strong Product
Aluminum, all-purpose metal material, provides excellent strength-to-weight ratio and can be machined or 3D printed.
